I have a concern with really dark tales. All good stories (especially fairy tales)have the good vs. evil conflict. The problem is not if it has a redemptive storyline but how it changes the reader after the book is closed. Does it make you a better person for having read it, or does it desensitize you to the sanctity of life and the evil that is very real in our world? My mind goes back to Phillipians where we are told to think on the good things. I think there are better choices for our reading pleasure.
